The technique of kasuri (cloth with splashed patterns), which is made by weaving pre-dyed threads according to a design, is said to have transmitted to Japan from the Ryukyu Islands via India and Southeast Asia. Please come to our store to see the charm of the handiwork of RYUKYU-KASURI, which has given a great influence on Japanese textiles.

Detail: In kasuri (cloth with splashed patterns) textiles, threads are pre-dyed according to a design. Taneito-tori is the first step in creating the threads that serve as dyeing guides. This is a hands-on demonstration of the handiwork technique in kasuri making; the number of artisans who possess this skill is limited even in the production area.
